Green Prescription

MCHT is a partner with other health service providers in delivering a green prescription programme at the Mangere Recreation Centre. Referral is from a general practitioner or ‘self referral’ by the person themselves.

The participants are given an initial health assessment and this is reviewed on a regular basis. Each week a guest speaker attends to talk about a subject relating to exercise or nutrition.

After the talk participants move to different areas of the centre for exercise programmes. This may be the gym, the pool for aquarobics or the hall for gentle floor exercises. This is all done under supervision of the recreation centre staff to ensure the well-being of the participants.
